Business units

The São Martinho Unit, located in the city of Pradópolis (SP), is the largest sugarcane processing facility in the world, with a crushing capacity of 10.5 million tons per harvest. Founded in 1948 and with nearly 5,000 employees, the unit is notable as a benchmark mill not only because of its size, but also for the excellence of its agro-industrial processes.

Different management programs, continuous team training and fine tuning between the agricultural and industrial areas ensure that to the plant achieves higher levels of productivity at competitive costs.

Its high rate of mechanization, one of the best among the largest plants in the industry, and its concern for the environment represent points of references in the sugar-energy market. The unit developed the "Viva a Cana" (Long Live Sugarcane) program to protect sugarcane fields, and operates an Environmental Education Center (CEA), which is a support and information dissemination structure for environmental preservation aimed primarily at students and the community.

Another strong distinguishing characteristic of the unit is its logistics operation, which brings competitive advantages such as bulk sugar storage and the existence of an internal rail branch line, which enables transportation of its ethanol and sugar production by railroad to the Port of Santos, combining practicality with lower costs

The São Martinho Plant also houses the Shared Services Center (CSC) used by the entire São Martinho group, offering better management of the company's business activities.

Located in the city of Iracemápolis (SP), in the region of Limeira, one of the São Paulo sugar industry's first developmental areas in the last century, Iracema Unit has more than 80 years of experience in the manufacture of ethanol and sugar and currently has a processing capacity of 3.5 million tons per harvest. The proximity to the Port of Santos gives the unit a logistical competitive advantage with regard to the export of its production.

In the last few years, Iracema received investments from São Martinho that permitted the modernization of its industrial plant and upgraded agricultural management. New equipment in both industrial and field operations, coupled with an intense program to professionalize and train its more than 2,000 employees, transformed Iracema into a plant that is prepared to succeed in dealing with the current sugar-energy sector's productivity challenges.

The unit processes about three million tons of raw materials per season and already harvests 100% of its sugarcane mechanically. Sugarcane is grown on about 30,000 hectares of own and partner landholdings. Furthermore, the plant's ethanol and sugar output percentages are flexible, allowing it to adjust its product mix according to market trends.

It has developed a series of social actions, particularly in the municipalities of Iracemápolis and Limeira, while also conducting ongoing environmental management efforts involving strict controls on its production processes; it is involved in the effective recovery of riparian forests and preservation areas; it also reuses the various waste products generated by its production processes.

Founded in 1945, it is located in the municipality of Américo Brasiliense (SP) in the region of Araraquara, only 280 km from the city of São Paulo and 350 km from the Port of Santos.

The unit has an index of more than 90% of its own sugarcane and has a milling capacity of approximately 5.5 million tons per harvest. It is one of the pioneers and a point of reference in implementation of the company's Sustainability Policy, with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Greenergy certifications for its processes.

Santa Cruz, which is also certified by Bonsucro, has approximately 3,000 employees

Inaugurated in 2008, the result of a greenfield project, the Boa Vista Unit, located in Quirinópolis (GO) is considered one of the most modern in the world. It currently has milling capacity per crop year of approximately 5 million tons of cane and 500.000 of corn, and its activities are 100% destined for ethanol production, in addition to energy cogeneration.

Located on 1.7 million m2 of land, with 23,000 m2 of buildings and constructions, the plant's layout was designed for future operational expansion in order to boost its sugarcane processing capacity.

One of its highlights is the Industrial Operations Center (IOC), a command room that displays the real-time status of all processes around the industrial site 24/7, uninterrupted. At the site, operations such as extraction and treatment of sugarcane juice, fermentation, distillation, storage, steam generation, electricity and compressed air generation, water and effluent treatment, among others, are managed.

Derived from corn ethanol production, the Boa Vista Unit also produces:
SMartDDG®: This is DDGS (Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles), used in animal nutrition, perfect for ruminants, swine, poultry, fish, and even pets.

SMartLIO®: This is corn oil for animal nutrition and various industrial applications, such as biofuel production and paint manufacturing, for example.
